We came, we saw, we rocked! How could you not, with Jane’s Addiction reunited in front of our very eyes – for the first time since 1991! We feel extremely fortunate to have been amongst a mere several hundred people to witness rock history – and yes, it was a doozy!
After a train wreck of an awards show that saw Kelly Osbourne go head to head with comedian host Jim Jeffries for some zingers, Sienna Miller plant one on Mick Jones and the Klaxons accept an award meant for the Arctic Monkeys, the LA alt-rock veterans received the Godlike Genius Award before launching into an explosive four-song set. Perry Farrell took to the stage dressed like a black stallion (literally, he had a tail people!) but the real highlight, proven by the deafening applause he received, was O.G. bassist Eric Avery. Eric circled the stage like a bull, and pounded out the iconic rhythms of “Stop,” “Mountain Song” and “Ocean Size” before grabbing an acoustic guitar for night-closer “Jane Says.” As the audience sang back in unison and danced to the steel drum, the band looked happy as ever.
Meanwhile, that very Eric Avery just released his first-ever beautifully dark solo effort, Help Wanted. Here’s a clip for his video… Then read on for more about last night.
It was a fitting end to a surreal night that also included an inspiring speech by Mick Jones of the Clash/Big Audio Dynamite who entertained the crowd with a story he saw on the news about kittens taking to a female dog after their mother died. He told the industry-laden crowd there should be a movie about it called “The Dogmother” before strapping on his guitar and rocking two songs with his new band Carbon/Silicon. All hail rock ‘n’ roll.
We leave you with a glimpse into our night:

Dodger Blue Also Runs Through Our Music-Addled Veins April 17, 2008

First things first, it’s baseball season once again and our veins run Blue for the Dodgers. We recently caught the hometown heroes playing the Padres last Friday and while the Dodgers lost, no thanks to Jeff Kent, just being at the game with the enthusiastic crowd and the calorie-infested snacks made us realize how good life is. Note to the veggies – veggie dogs are behind home plate at the kiosk, not the counter.
Check out this snapshot of us coming through the gates. Who needs an overpriced commemorative picture when you have screen capture?!?

The rumors are true. Get ready to rock like it’s 1991.
After much speculation in the previous week, Eric Avery has agreed to join former band mates Jane’s Addiction for a one-night-only performance at the first-ever U.S. NME Awards. The iconic foursome will be crowned with the Godlike Genius Award during the ceremony and performance, to take place at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles, April 23. Jane’s Addiction is joining the likes of The Clash, New Order, Primal Scream and Manic Street Preachers, who are among the acts to have picked up the Godlike Genius prize at the UK awards.

The Wild, Wild World of Mr. Ed Harcourt April 14, 2008

We had the absolute pleasure of spending lots of time with the ridiculously talented and wildly entertaining Ed Harcourt when he was here for a short U.S. run. The man turned heads in Austin, for many reasons. Whether playing to packed houses or disturbing those who slumber, Ed Harcourt was the talk of the town. Entertainment Weekly got the scoop:
http://hollywoodinsider.ew.com/2008/03/on-the-ground-a.html#more
“Slightly disorderly: While making his way down 7th Street, somewhat inebriated singer-songwriter Ed Harcourt mistakes an Austin homeless shelter for a yoga studio and proceeds to bang on the windows. (For the record, Harcourt has actively campaigned for homelessness awareness over the years and told EW.com that he genuinely felt bad about his mistake the next day.)”
But seriously, the real point here is his talent. His performance on the BBC is classic:

Will we ever get tired of terrible wolf cliches when talking about Sea Wolf? Hmmm…probably not. Sea Wolf is preparing to embark on its first headlining tour, jutting across the States and Canada. What can we say besides, if you have YET to see this band, what are you waiting for??? Trust, they don’t disappoint! And if you disagree, we’ll send you… a dollar? Or… a lolllipop? Mmmm lollipops.

Darker My Love Plays in The Ocean (Ocean Way Studios, that is) April 14, 2008

Why do these studio photos always look exactly the same? Well, I guess if you’re a gear geek you’ll appreciate that Darker My Love “mixed their sophomore album, 2, in the Never 88R equipped Studio D.” This all naturally spoken in a loud booming male voice. On a side note (not really – side that is), this album is INCREDIBLE. It’s not just us saying so. There’s a couple radio stations who agree… A couple very important and highly influential stations who have been crucial in breaking some other well-known indie-rock bands we happen to be close with and… And…… We are excitable.
