Hong’s triumphant story of a little girl and a vicious dog continues to captivate readers with its unique use of fanciful paintings and cleverly animated pop-up elements. The New York Times remarked, “The paintings are beautifully made and the imagery is mysteriously touching.”

The already impressive line-up scheduled for the Pablove Across America benefit concert has expanded: Band of Horses and Sea Wolf have been added to the event, taking place at Avalon on Saturday, November 21. The evening will be dedicated to celebrating the triumphant return of Jeff Castelaz, co-founder of Dangerbird Records, who is currently pedaling his way across the country on a bicycle in order to raise awareness and funds for the Pablove Foundation. This charity is dedicated to child life programs as well as children’s cancer research and treatment.

The evening will host a slew of already announced supporters who will perform acoustic and semi-acoustic sets including, Tom Morello: The Nightwatchman, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Shirley Manson, ButchWalker, Tom Gabel (Against Me!), Jarrod Gorbel (the Honorary Title), Charlotte Martin and Songs For Kids. Tickets are $35 (GA) and $65 (VIP) and on sale now. All proceeds will go to the Foundation.

Castelaz’s pilgrimage is deeply rooted: he’s riding in honor and remembrance of his 6-year old son, Pablo Thrailkill Castelaz, whose individual fight with cancer ended June 27, 2009 after a 13-month battle. The Pablove Foundation was founded by Castelaz and his wife Jo Ann Thrailkill at the onset of their son’s diagnosis. Pablove Across America is Castelaz’s physical show of commitment to fighting cancer. His message is urgent: kids get cancer too. Families need help and hope – not only to find a cure, but also to increase joy and compassion during the day-to-day grind of treatment.

“Pablove Across America “is about standing up, hammering the pedals, speaking out – and FIGHTING back,” proclaims Castelaz. “We want people to support and spread our message that kids get cancer too. It’s not somebody else’s problem. As the Pablove Foundation community grows, we can make a sizable difference in peoples’ lives.”

A cross-cultural pastiche of indie-pop gems, Goldspot’s sophomore LP, And the Elephant Is Dancing,  is available now on iTunes. The follow up to the critically acclaimed debut Tally Of The Yes Men has already turned the heads of tastemakers, with Nic Harcourt calling the album ““a timeless and original gem,” while adding: “It’s as if George Harrison never left India.”

Frontman Siddhartha Khosla co-produced And The Elephant Is Dancing with Beach Boys engineer Jeff Peters, a fitting collaboration for Khosla, who grew up listenning to a mix of Bollywood oldies and Western rock bands. “Mohd. Rafi, Michael Stipe of REM, Kishore Kumar, and The Beatles all have inspired me ever since I could sing my first note,” Khosla reveals.

East Coast fans will have a chance to hear the new songs up close and personal as Goldspot kicks off a mini East Coast tour November 19 in New York.

Fitz & the Tantrums will perform their soul-drenched pop songs on KCRW’s “Morning Become Eclectic” Friday, November 6, prior to hitting the stage that evening at the Echo in front of their Los Angeles home crowd. This will warm up the crooner and his ensemble for their two-week stint opening for pop mainstays, Maroon 5.

Armed with just a $50 church organ and a two-bit microphone, Fitz & The Tantrums injected their debut EP, “Songs For A Break Up: Volume 1,” with equal parts Motown and 70s AM. Sure to make your toes tap and your heart swoon, Fitz has been described by Spin.com as “a confident crooner,” while they declared the songs, “Breakin’ the Chains of Love,” and “Don’t Gotta Work It Out,” as “two stone-legit, would-be standards.”

Frightened Rabbit are returning with their anticipated third album, The Winter Of Mixed Drinks. The follow-up to rambunctious Scots’ breakthrough LP The Midnight Organ Fight will be released worldwide in March 2010 on FatCat Records. The record’s first taste, “Swim Until You Can’t See Land,” is streaming now via FatCat’s website and will be digitally released November 17, followed by a 7-inch b/w “Fun Stuff” on December 8.

UK audiences can catch the lads on tour through the end of the year, as they will play a string of headlining gigs followed by a weeklong run in Ireland and England with Modest Mouse.

As all fun-spirited people know, Halloween is not just about one night of celebration, costumes and candy. No, Halloween is best celebrated over the course of an entire week, and there’s no better way to get your Halloween started than an evening at Lucha VaVoom. The Mayan Theater will once again host the high-flying, saucy spectacle with two nights of Halloween-themed lucha libre and burlesque. The KTLA Morning Show featured Lucha VaVoom today, with a sneak preview of tonight’s crowd-pleasing combination of “sexo y violencia.”

Gamers, the wait is over – DJ Hero™ is in stores now. Mash-up master DJ Z-Trip sat down with the Associated Press to discuss the process of becoming an avatar in the game and the challenge of making a song with gameplay in mind. While there’s still a month to wait before Twilight: New Moon hits theaters,  fans can get a taste of what’s to come via the soundtrack, released late last week due to overwhelming demand. Sea Wolf took a minute from their national, headlining musical voyage to record a song for the anticipated soundtrack, and the result is the hauntingly beautiful “The Violet Hour,” which shines plenty alongside a veritable who’s who of contributors such as Thom Yorke, Death Cab For Cutie and Grizzly Bear, among others, and will appear in the film as well.

On November 6, the Twilight frenzy will come to the Hollywood & Highland complex in Los Angeles for a special event featuring performances by Sea Wolf, as well as Death Cab For Cutie, Anya Marina, and others. A Q&A with select cast members will follow. In addition to this Twilight extravaganza, you can also catch Sea Wolf in L.A. on October 31 at The Legendary Park Plaza Hotel for KCRW’s Masquerade: A Halloween Costume Ball & Dance Party. On November 18, the station’s “Morning Becomes Eclectic” will host the septet for a live session.

Brakesbrakesbrakes will take over Spaceland this Thursday, October 22, joined by Ezra Furman & The Harpoons and Rachel Goodrich. This show is the first gig in LA in more than two years for the boisterous Brits, so you know they will be even rowdier than usual for this night of night of compelling hooks, off-kilter lyrics and urgent intensity. Their notorous live show was called “more immediate than slap in the face with a bucketful of wetish” by NME and was recently captured on their live album, Rock Is Dodelijk, released digitally Oct. 6 on FatCat.
